Description
This Family Style Gumbo is loaded with shrimp, chicken, Andouille sausage, and aromatic veggies, perfect for family gatherings or a comforting dinner.
Ingredients
- Andouille Sausage
- Chicken Thighs
- Medium Shrimp
- Bell Peppers
- Onions
- Celery
- Garlic
- Okra
- Chicken Broth
- Bay Leaves
- Thyme
- Cayenne Pepper
- Salt and Pepper
- Rice
Instructions
- In a large pot over medium heat, add sliced Andouille sausage and cook until browned. Remove and set aside.
- In the same pot, add chicken thighs and season with salt and pepper. Cook until browned on both sides, then remove and set aside.
- Add chopped onions, bell peppers, celery, and garlic to the pot. Sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in okra and cook for an additional 3 minutes.
- Return the sausage and chicken to the pot and pour in the chicken broth. Add bay leaves, thyme, and cayenne pepper. Bring to a simmer.
- Reduce heat to low and simmer for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the chicken is cooked through and tender.
- Add the shrimp during the last 5 minutes of cooking, allowing them to turn pink and opaque.
- Remove bay leaves, adjust seasoning if necessary, and serve over cooked rice.
Notes
- Feel free to customize with additional proteins or vegetables.
- Letting it simmer longer deepens the flavors.
- Serve with cornbread for a complete meal.
