Description

This Family Style Gumbo is loaded with shrimp, chicken, Andouille sausage, and aromatic veggies, perfect for family gatherings or a comforting dinner.


Ingredients

  • Andouille Sausage
  • Chicken Thighs
  • Medium Shrimp
  • Bell Peppers
  • Onions
  • Celery
  • Garlic
  • Okra
  • Chicken Broth
  • Bay Leaves
  • Thyme
  • Cayenne Pepper
  • Salt and Pepper
  • Rice

Instructions

  1. In a large pot over medium heat, add sliced Andouille sausage and cook until browned. Remove and set aside.
  2. In the same pot, add chicken thighs and season with salt and pepper. Cook until browned on both sides, then remove and set aside.
  3. Add chopped onions, bell peppers, celery, and garlic to the pot. Sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in okra and cook for an additional 3 minutes.
  5. Return the sausage and chicken to the pot and pour in the chicken broth. Add bay leaves, thyme, and cayenne pepper. Bring to a simmer.
  6. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the chicken is cooked through and tender.
  7. Add the shrimp during the last 5 minutes of cooking, allowing them to turn pink and opaque.
  8. Remove bay leaves, adjust seasoning if necessary, and serve over cooked rice.

  • Feel free to customize with additional proteins or vegetables.
  • Letting it simmer longer deepens the flavors.
